यशस्विनी सिंह देसवाल, 2010 के राष्ट्रीय खेलों से प्रेरित होकर, ने अपनी शूटिंग कौशल को वर्ष 2012 में शुरू किया। उन्होंने उसी वर्ष पुणे में आयोजित राष्ट्रीय खेलों में भाग लिया और अपना पहला स्वर्ण पदक जीता।

मार्च 2021 में, यशस्विनी ने मनु भाकर और श्री निवेथा के साथ नई दिल्ली की डॉ कर्णी सिंह शूटिंग रेंज चैंपियनशिप में महिला टीम की 10 मीटर एयर पिस्टल स्पर्धा में स्वर्ण पदक जीता और साथ ही उन्होंने पोलैंड के तीन प्रतिद्वंद्वियों को हराया। वर्ष 2021 में, यशस्विनी सिंह देसवाल को 2020 टोक्यो ओलंपिक का प्रतिष्ठान प्राप्त करने के लिए चुना गया, लेकिन COVID-19 महामारी के कारण टोक्यो ओलंपिक स्थगित कर दिया गया।
